Phenomenological research project on walking and perceiving landscape.

Promenadeology Phenomenological research project                 Graduation Landscape architecture, 2009-2010 'Recepten voor wandelroutes', with Peter Veldt Gordon Cullen analyzed routes as a way of understanding architecture and the city. We understood this method as a way of de-mistifying the experience c.q. atmosphere of a place and added a method of 'measurement'. We used ad simple ‘experience chart’ as a way of proving the hypothesis that people like things in the same way. This may seem a rather subjective way of measuring. We encountered a striking coincidence: Our research showed how various people individually experience the same feelings while walking the same route trough landscape. We used spatial elements along the route for measuring points. The experience peaks (show by the numbered blocks in the chart) show which spacious elements where ranked highest by the envolved people. Using Cordon Cullens ‘serial vision’ method as an example we unraveled the story behind the spatial elements as a part and as a whole.
