Researcher and urban designer at the Gemeente Almere, working at the border between architecture, urbanism and landscape.

I currently work as urban designer & policymaker at the municipality of Almere (2024–present) on sustainability and social development. Before that I held the same role at the municipality of Amsterdam (2020–2024), focused on densification and circularity — including the Schinkelkwartier, the Circulaire Agenda and research into future-proof densification.

Alongside policy work I design and research: since 2017 as designer and researcher at atelier 0 (NULarchitecten) with Douwe Strating. Earlier I worked as landscape architect at Karres&Brands (2019–2020) and Juurlink & Geluk / CULD (2017–2018), and trained at Verzone Woods Architectes in Lausanne.

I hold a Master of Architecture from TU Delft (2016) and a bachelor's in Landscape Architecture from Larenstein (2010), with a specialisation in Urbanism at TU Berlin. My work and writing centre on the social functioning of our surroundings — and the conviction that we should leave the earth better than we found it.

Expertise

Urbanism & Landscape, having extensive knowledge on the 'living world' and 'constructed world': plants, herbs & trees as well as (sustainable) urbanism & responsible spatial planning, preferring a methodological & analytical approach.

Skills & languages

ArcGIS (advanced), Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe CS, Grasshopper parametrics; Python and HTML/CSS (basic). Policy writing: advanced. Dutch (native), English (C2), German (B2), French (B1).

Beyond work

Teacher at the IMC Weekendschool (2017–2023, nature & architecture, ages 10–13); volunteer at buurthuis & buurttuin De Handreiking. Father of Midas, partner of Madeline. Walking, cooking, writing, drawing.
